Life Organised.

Famli How-To Guide

Adults and Children: Who Sees What?

Bring the family together, while keeping sensitive information private.

Famli is designed for the whole family, including children. Everyone can take part in organising family life, sharing activities and keeping track of what’s happening, but not everyone needs access to everything.

That’s why Famli distinguishes between Owners, Adults and Children.

Here’s how it works, what children can see and do, and how to set up your family with confidence.

01
Three Kinds of Family Member.

Owner.

The Owner is the person who created the family in Famli.
The Owner manages the family’s members and subscription, and is the only one who can remove people from the family.

Adult.

Adults have access to everything within the family, including personal documents, financial information and insurance details.
Choose Adult for people who should have full access to the family’s information.

Child.

Children can participate in everyday family life in Famli without having access to sensitive information.
They can see family activities, use tasks and calendars, and contribute to keeping the household organised. Personal Documents, Finance, Insurance and Vehicles are restricted.
The important thing to remember: a Child account is designed to let children participate without giving them the same access as an Adult.

02
What Can Children See?

Children can access the everyday areas of Famli, including:

  • Family calendar: see family events and activities.
  • Tasks: see tasks and participate in getting things done.
  • Travel: access relevant family travel information.
  • Household: see household information available to them.
  • Pets: see family pet information.
  • Special events: keep up with birthdays, celebrations and other family occasions.

This helps children feel included and makes Famli useful to the whole household, rather than just the adults.

03
What Can’t Children See?

Four areas are restricted for Child accounts.

Personal Documents.

Sensitive personal documents, including passports and visas, are hidden from children’s menus and dashboards. Children cannot open these restricted items through a direct link either.

Finance.

Financial information in the Finance area is not available to children.

Insurance.

Insurance information and policies in the Insurance area are also restricted.

Vehicles.

Vehicle information in the Vehicles area is also restricted.

These restrictions apply to the Famli interface, including the voice assistant: it won’t read out information from these restricted areas to a child. Children also do not receive expiry emails about these restricted items.
Good to know: these protections apply to the restricted areas within Famli. They don’t prevent someone from sharing information separately, such as through a message or a document share link. See section 6, Share links.

04
What Can Children Change?

Children aren’t just there to look at information. They can contribute to family life, too.

A Child can:

  • Add their own calendar events.
  • Add their own tasks.
  • Change or delete events and tasks they added themselves.
  • Tick off tasks assigned to them.
  • Tick off tasks that haven’t been assigned to anyone.

For example, a child could add their own activity to the calendar or tick off a task when they’ve finished tidying their room.

However, children cannot change or delete calendar events or tasks added by anyone else. They can see those items, but they are read-only for them.
This helps children take responsibility for their own activities while protecting information and plans managed by adults.

05
How to Set Someone as an Adult or Child.

You choose a person’s role when inviting them to join your family.

When Inviting a New Family Member.

  1. Open the Members page in Famli.
  2. Choose the option to invite or add a family member.
  3. Enter the details requested.
  4. Select Adult or Child for that person.
  5. Complete the invitation or addition process.

Important: the role starts as Child. Check the selection carefully and only choose Adult when the person should have full access to the family’s information.

You can also add a young child without an email address. A child added without an email address won’t have their own login; they appear in your family, but can’t sign in themselves.

What If You Need to Change Someone’s Role?

People’s needs change as children grow up or family arrangements change.
The Owner can switch a family member between Adult and Child at any time from the Members page.
Before changing a Child to Adult, remember that Adult access includes the restricted areas containing personal documents, finance, insurance and vehicles.

06
Share Links: One Important Exception.

Famli restricts a Child’s access to sensitive areas, but share links work differently.
Anyone who receives a share link can open the document or item covered by that link, regardless of whether they have a Child account.
For that reason:

  • Only share links with people you trust.
  • Think carefully before sharing sensitive documents.
  • Don’t assume that a recipient’s Child role will block access through a share link.
  • If a link contains sensitive information, share it only when appropriate.

A share link is intended to make sharing easier, so always consider who will be able to open it before sending it.

07
A Few Other Things to Know.
  • Family size: Each family has room for 10 people, including children. Additional places can be added if you need them.
  • Removing members: Only the Owner can remove someone from the family.
  • Marketing emails: Children do not receive marketing emails from Famli.

Ready to Invite the Children?

Famli is intended to help the whole family stay connected and involved in everyday life. The Adult and Child roles help you decide who can access sensitive family information while allowing children to participate in calendars, tasks and activities.

Before inviting your children, take a moment to check the role selected for each person and make sure you understand how share links work.

Then bring the family into Famli and start making everyday life a little easier to organise.
