Famli how-to guide
Add and organise documents in Famli.
Keep important family documents together, so they’re easier to find when you need them.
Insurance policies, passports, bank statements, household bills, vehicle paperwork, holiday bookings: there are plenty of important documents we need to keep track of. Famli helps you keep them organised in one place, and does most of the filing for you.
On a computer: drag the file into the upload box, or click it to choose a file.
On a phone: tap Scan Document and take a photo of the document with your camera.
You can add PDFs and images (JPG, PNG, GIF or WEBP) up to 10 MB each.
You’ll see Document received. Famli now processes your document in the background, and it appears in your items a moment later. Select Scan another to keep going, or Go to dashboard.
Famli reads your document, works out what it is and puts it in the right space, for example:
- Insurance: home, car, life, pet and travel insurance policies
- Finance: bank accounts, credit cards, mortgages, savings, pensions and vehicle finance
- Household: utility, broadband and mobile phone bills
- Vehicles: cars, motorbikes and other vehicles
- Travel: holidays
- Personal Documents: passports and visas
It also fills in the key details it finds, such as the policy or document number, the provider, and the start and expiry dates. For a passport or visa, that means the name, document number, date of birth and start and end dates.
If Famli can’t tell what a document is, it files it under Finance, so nothing gets lost.
New documents appear in the For Review panel on your dashboard, and they’re marked New until you open them.
Open each new item, check the details Famli has filled in and correct anything it got wrong. Then select Save item.
Tip: Pay particular attention to expiry and renewal dates. Famli uses them to remind you before something runs out (see Step 7).
When you need the document again, open the space it was filed in. Your spaces are listed under Spaces in the menu.
Use the tabs at the top to show one type of item, such as just car insurance or just passports, and the status menu to show Active, Expired or Renewal items.
No hunting through old emails, scrolling endlessly through photos or trying to remember which folder you used.
Famli is designed to help families stay organised and connected, and not every document needs to be available to every family member.
- Adults can see everything in the family, including Personal Documents, Finance and Insurance.
- Children can’t see Personal Documents, Finance or Insurance. These areas are hidden from their menus and dashboards, and they can’t open these items through a direct link either.
The family owner can switch someone between Adult and Child at any time from the Members page.
Sharing with someone outside the family. Need to send your travel insurance to a relative, or a document to a professional adviser? Select the share icon on the item, choose how long the link should work (1 Hour, 24 Hours, 7 Days or 30 Days) and select Generate Link. Then copy the link and send it.
Your links are listed under Active Links, and you can remove one at any time to stop it working.
Important: Anyone with a share link can open that document, whatever their role in Famli, even if they have a Child account. Only share links with people you trust.
Expiry reminders. For insurance policies and personal documents, Famli emails you 7 days before the expiry date and again on the day it expires, so a lapsed policy or out-of-date passport doesn’t catch you out.
A Quick Word About Privacy.
Your family’s personal information deserves to be treated with care.
Famli is designed with privacy in mind, helping you keep important family information organised for your own use rather than for advertising or marketing.
Choose each family member’s role thoughtfully, and take care with share links, particularly for passports, financial information and other sensitive records.
You’re All Set!
The next time you need an important family document, you’ll know where to look.
Less searching. Less stress. More organised family life.
